Chesapeake Bank head on track to lead American Bankers Association

Jeffrey M. Szyperski of Weems has been slated as the candidate for vice chairman when the American Bankers Association holds its annual convention on Oct. 16-18 in Nashville, Tennessee.

In that position, Szyperski will advance to chairman-elect in October 2017 and to chairman of the national organization for a one-year term beginning in October 2018. The ABA is the voice of the nation’s $16 trillion banking industry.

He is chairman, president and chief executive officer of Chesapeake Bank. Headquartered in Kilmarnock, Chesapeake has 14 branches, including two in Gloucester and one in Mathews.

Szyperski has been with Chesapeake for 26 years and said he has headed the bank for about 10 years.

“I did not campaign to be selected” for the chairman track, Szyperski said, but “it’s quite an honor.” He said the national positions will require time away from this area and before agreeing to commit to the offices he received the blessing of Chesapeake&rsqu...
