Mathews High School showed some Blue Devil spirit during Friday night’s football season opener against Northampton. The Devils fell to the visitors from the Eastern Shore, 46-35. Read more about the game here. The cheerleading squad attended UCA Cheer Camp at Old Dominion University this summer. Both the JV and varsity girls brought home spirit sticks and trophies for their performances. The JV squad won Most Improved JV Team. Philomena West and Lauren Bland were selected as All Americans. Bland is a two-time All American. They will represent Mathews High School and the U.S. when they travel to London for the New Year’s Day Parade. Other MHS cheerleaders—Cora Ewell, Lindsey Dalton, She’ana Stroud and Kierra Billups—were invited to participate in the Varsity Spirit Spectacular in Walt Disney World on New Year’s Day.
