Surrounded by her loving family, Chauntea Catherine Shield, age 48, of Gloucester, went to her heavenly home following a courageous battle with cancer on Thursday, Feb. 12, 2026. Chauntea was a special education teacher in the Hopewell, York, and Gloucester County public school systems. The beach was her happy place with family and friends. Just as she loved the ocean, she faced her illness with a quiet, steady strength. She faced every challenge with courage and dignity, remaining a beacon of hope and inspiration to all who knew her. Chauntea is now reunited with her nephew, Colby Adams, in peace. She is survived by her devoted husband, David G. Shield Jr.; their children, Grayson and Chelsea; her parents, Daniel and Bonnie Odell Grayson, and her siblings, Aaron Grayson (Amie) and Brandon Grayson (Melissa), as well as nieces and nephews, Aubrey, Cassidy, Wesley, Noah, Kaylin, and Caleb; father and mother-in-law, David Shield (Donna), and sister-in-law, Katy Adams (Bill). A Celebration of Life service was held at 2 p.m. on Monday, February 16, 2026, at Petsworth Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. John Pouchot. Interment was private.
