CHARLIE CLARENCE HAYWOOD III

Mr. Charlie Clarence Haywood III, 89, of Hayes, passed away Oct. 17, 2017 at Mary Immaculate Hospital.

He was born Nov. 19, 1927 to Charlie C. and Lucy M. Haywood.

Charlie was a member of New Life Ministry Center Church of God, and was retired from the Transportation Dept. at Fort Eustis after 46 years. He was known at Fort Eustis for his homemade and delicious clam chowder he would cook for their lunch. 

He enjoyed watching wrestling and going fishing. Charlie was a kind southern gentleman who always had a big smile for everyone. He will surely be missed by his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Bernice H. Haywood; grandson, Brian Haywood; step-grandson, Randy West; siblings, Edward Haywood, Irene Jenkins, Margie Gibbs and Ellie Mae Coates.

He is survived by his sons, Eugene Haywood (Ann), Dewayne Haywood (Anita) and Anthony Haywood; grandson, Brandon Haywood (Jennifer); step-grandson, Nick Krikales (Linda); great-grandchildren, Madison Almony, Emily, Audrey and Ella Haywood, and step-great-grandchildren, Demetrius and Violet Krikales and Crystal West.

Funeral service conducted by the Rev. Wendell Gaffney was held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, 2017, at New Life Ministry Center Church of God, 3450 George Washington Memorial Highway, Hayes. Interment followed in Gloucester Point Cemetery. The family received friends Friday, Oct. 20, 2017, from 7-8:30 p.m. at the New Life Ministry Center Church of God.
