CHARLES ROGER BROWN

It is with great sadness that we announce that Charles Roger Brown (aka Charlie Brown) of Shacklefords, Va., passed away on April 23, 2021.

Charles was born Sept. 18, 1933 and raised in Bena, Va. He attended Achilles High School and spent two years in the U.S. Army; then worked for a short period of time as a commercial waterman. He then purchased and was owner/operator of the B-Bar-B Ranch and Saddlery at Glenns, Va., for over 40 years until his retirement. He was a lifetime member of the Virginia Cowboy Association, member of the NRA and Forest Chapel United Methodist Church. He was a great storyteller and made anyone feel at home in his presence. He lived his life’s dream of being a cowboy, traveling the country winning many awards. Now, this cowboy has taken his final ride.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bozy and Lorraine Brown, and a sister, Gloria Smith. Charles is survived by his wife, Alvine of 64 years; son, Jeffery Brown (Angela) of Winchester, Va.; granddaughter, Kristen Brown (Mark) of Barhamsville, Va.; sister, Brenda Davis of Bena, Va.; step-grandson, Tyler Mawyer of Winchester, Va.; special extended family, Keith, Patricia, Thomas Williams, and a host of nieces and nephews.

A service of remembrance for family and close friends will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 1 at Forest Chapel United Methodist Church, 316 Forest Chapel Road, Saluda.
