Charles Richard Baumgardner of Hayes, passed away August 24, 2016, at the age of 81.
He was born in Asheville, North Carolina. Throughout his life, Richard was a hard-working, self-made man. After serving in the U.S. Air Force, he got a job hanging doors. He worked hard and tirelessly, owning his business Baumgardner and Hogge Contractors. Richard earned a reputation for his quality work. There were few things he could not do. He enjoyed boating, and operating his 48-foot yacht even in extreme conditions. He could repair whatever went wrong. He later played golf and has two Hole-in-One Trophies.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Bonnie Baumgardner; his son, Richard Allen “Bubba” Baumgardner; and his wife of 54 years, Margaret Baumgardner.
He is survived by his children, Brenda Tyson, Cindy Wong and husband, Kee, Pat Cruse and husband Jack; grandchildren, Austin Mueller, Rose Drinnon, Rachel Drinnon, Robbie Drinnon, Kit Wong and Kai Wong; Jamie Green, whom he loved like a son; sister, Betty Anne Roane; brother, the Rev. Michael Baumgardner; along with many wonderful nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family and friends who are saddened by his death.
A celebration of Richard’s life will be from 1:30-3 p.m. Sunday, September 11, 2016, at Groves Memorial Presbyterian Church. Private inurnment with military honors will be in Rosewell Memorial Garden Cemetery.
