CHARLES MUGLER “MUGGY” GIBSON

A committed husband, father, longtime community leader, “Muggy” Gibson, 87, passed peacefully in his home on Jan. 10, 2016.

Having served in the U.S. Army, Muggy went on to graduate from Elon University and attended UVA Law School. In 1954, he became the youngest Clerk of Court for the City of Hampton, and served in that capacity until his retirement in 1988. During that time, he also served as President of Hampton City Employees Credit Union, Hampton Kiwanis Club, Director of the Peninsula Chamber of Commerce, Director of the American Red Cross, Past Exalted Ruler of Hampton Elks Club #366 and former Trustee of Northampton Presbyterian Church.

Upon retirement, Muggy and his wife moved to their summer home in Mathews, Va. on the Piankatank River “where the frogs jump from bank to bank.” He enjoyed gardening, boating, fishing, and his horse “Mac” with his dog, Foxy, by his side.

He was preceded in death by his eldest son, Charles Mugler Gibson Jr. 

He is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Marilyn; his sons, Phillip (Danette) and Richard (Teresa); his grandchildren, Curtis, Richie, Taryn, Rachael, Chase and Charlie.

The family will receive friends on Jan. 15 from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. immediately before the service at Parklawn-Wood Memorial Chapel. Burial to follow at Parklawn Memorial Park.
