Changing seasons cause cold, rain, sunshine, warm, all in one day

120 YEARS AGOThursday, March 1, 1906from the Mathews Journal Sunday was a typical March-day though, the calendar put it as the last Sunday in February, light rain in the morning, but cleared off bright and sunny before noon. Quite a variety of costumes were worn to St. Paul’s in the afternoon. Some winter suits and some thin dresses without wraps or umbrellas. Our pastor Rev. W.L. Ware was just a little late on account of conducting the funeral service of Mrs. Robert F. Hudgins at 12 p.m. at Bethel Church. The clouds began to gather and some rain began to fall before the services commenced. There was no lingering in the church yard for the exchange of friendly greetings, but all urged their way homeward and a streak of lightning and a peal of Spring thunder caused them to mend their pace. Mrs. Robt. Miles of East River had a severe fall last Saturday night. Making a misstep, she fell from the head of the stairs all the way down, was taken up bruised and bleeding.
