Chamber Orchestra returns

After ceasing concerts and rehearsals because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Courthouse Chamber Orchestra, a community group based on the Middle Peninsula, is back with a performance already on the books and two new conductors.

Treg and Elisse Ancelet, residents of Newport News, were picked to be the orchestra’s new conductors last summer when the pandemic was still in full force. It began rehearsing again in the beginning of June at Newington Baptist Church, located on Gloucester Main Street.

Elisse said that the orchestra has high school and college students, retirees and everyone in between participating this summer. She also said that the group has musicians playing instruments that they learned how to play during the pandemic.

Courthouse Chamber Orchestra is scheduled to perform on Aug. 18 as part of Gloucester Parks, Recreation and Tourism’s Concerts on the Green summer concert series. The concert will begin at 6 p.m. on the lawn of County Building Two.
