Ceremony next week for Gloucester LOVEWorks sign

The public is invited next Thursday, June 12 to the official unveiling and dedication of a new landmark on Gloucester’s Main Street—a LOVEWorks sign, located on the gazebo lawn at Sanders Riverside Active Living Community.
The event will take place at 2 p.m. on Loving Day, which commemorates the landmark 1967 Supreme Court case involving “Loving v. Virginia,” brought by Richard and Mildred Loving of Caroline County. The ruling forced Virginia and 15 other states to erase anti-miscegenation laws from their books.
“We now celebrate interracial marriage and the freedom to choose whom you love and marry,” said a press release from Gloucester Main Street.
The new installation joins more than 300 LOVEWorks signs across the Commonwealth, part of a Virginia Tourism initiative that promotes statewide and local pride through public art.
