A free organ concert will be held in Kingston Chapel at 370 Main Street, Mathews at 4 p.m. Sunday. “A Celebration of British Music” will include several famous anthems and hymns and Kingston Episcopal Parish is seeking local singers who are willing to augment the Kingston Choir for the occasion. A practice for all volunteers will be held before the concert at 2:30.
Donations will be collected for the county’s Meals on Wheels program, as well as the church’s music program. A reception sponsored by Meals on Wheels will follow the concert.
Dr. Daniel Corneliussen, Kingston’s music director, Libby Boyer, organist and choir director of Christ Church, Middlesex, and the Rev. J. Coleman Tyler, retired associate rector and principal organist at Truro Anglican Church in Fairfax, will perform on the organ.
The choir will sing “Jerusalem” by Sir Hubert H. Parry and “The Old Hundredth Psalm Tune” by Ralph Vaughan Williams as well as the tune “Highland Cathedral” with words by the Rev. Mr. Tyler and “Thine is the Glory.” Featured organ works will include Edward Elgar’s “Nimrod,” Edward German’s “Coronation March,” “Benedictus” by Karl Jenkins, Ralph Vaughn Williams’ “Rhosymedre,” and “Voluntary on Old Hundredth” by Henry Purcell.
