CECIL HARVEY WILLIAMS JR.

Cecil Harvey Williams Jr., 85, passed away Sept. 1, 2017.

Harvey was born in Newport News in January 1932. He spent his childhood years growing up in Newport News and Hampton.

Since 1975 he had resided at his ancestral home on Cedar Bush Creek in Gloucester. Harvey will be remembered as a great professor, who loved his family and spending time reading and gardening. 

Harvey earned diplomas and degrees from Hampton High School, Campbell University, Duke University, Colgate Rochester Divinity School at Crozer Theological Seminary, and the University of Virginia. He taught Political Science at Lynchburg College from 1963 to 1967 and at Christopher Newport University from 1967 to 1998. 

He is survived by his wife, Mary Dale Williams of Gloucester; daughter, Judith Williams of Williamsburg; son, Andrew Williams of Falls Church; grandsons, Kyle, Kendall, Kirk and Christopher; sister, Betty Lee Smith, and brother, Roy Williams.

Funeral service conducted by the Rev. Mike Derflinger, the Rev. Arthur L. Wolz Jr. and the Rev. Braxton Allport will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 7, 2017, at Bethany United Methodist Church, Gloucester Point. Interment will follow in Gloucester Point Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service on Thursday, beginning at 10 o’clock at the church.
