CCS swimmers dominate four-way meet

Local students Abbi Fannin and Finley Caisse are among the captains of this year’s Christchurch School swim team.
Fannin, a senior, is the daughter of Steve and Donna Fannin of Hayes. Caisse, a junior, is the son of Joey and Sarah Caisse of Hartfield.

Fannin, Caisse and the rest of the CCS swim team dominated Friday’s four-way swim meet at the Northern Neck Family YMCA, scoring 190 points against Middlesex High School (84), Northumberland High School (54) and Lancaster High School (one point).

Winning the opening medley relay was the team of Fannin, Katelyn Carnes (Hartfield), Hannah VanVelzor (Norwalk, Conn.) and Tela Cola (Christchurch). Caisse, Mare Barasik (Turkey), Alex Fitzhugh (Midlothian) and Harrison Hinton (Wicomico Church) combined to take first in the boys’ medley.

Fannin and Fitzhugh won the 200 individual medley, while Sydney Latoski (Gloucester) and Hinton took the 50 freestyle honors. Jimmy Lewis (Lancas-ter) took third. Fannin and Fitzhugh took top honors in the 100 butterfly, while Cola took second and Latoski third in the 100 freestyle and Hinton won the boys’ 100 free. The team of VanVelzor, Cola, Latoski and Charli Miltenberger (Ware Neck) placed first in the 200 freestyle relay, while the boys’ team of Fitzhugh, Lewis, Caisse and Hinton took the boys’ event. Caisse won the 100 backstroke, followed by Lewis in second place while Carnes and Miltenberger went 1-2 in the girls’ 100 breaststroke.

The Christchurch swim team is coached by Dave Cola and assistant coaches Franklin Bell and Carolyn Bell. In addition to Fannin and Caisse, team captains include VanVelzor and Anthony Dentener.
