CBGS grads honored for community service

Chesapeake Bay Governor’s School held its graduation ceremony at Essex Intermediate School on Tuesday, May 15, with the 65 seniors receiving their blue and green honor cords to wear at their home school graduation ceremonies.

The Class of 2012 collectively earned over 5,200 hours of community service, with 17 receiving the CBGS Community Service Award, a gold cord, for at least 120 hours over their three years in the program as well as the Bronze, Silver, or Gold Presidential Community Service Award.

Local students earning awards were Rachel Boles of Mathews, Tina Edwards of Gloucester and John Shaw of Middlesex (Bronze level, 120-174 hours); Emma Hepworth of Gloucester (Silver level, 175-249 hours) and Grayson Johnson of Middlesex (Gold level, over 250 hours).
