Cavs shut out Devils, 39-0

 

The visiting King William Cavaliers shut out the Mathews varsity football team, 39-0, on Monday night.

After receiving the opening kickoff, King William scored on the second play from scrimmage. The Cavaliers scored three more touchdowns by the end of the first quarter to take a 25-0 lead. King William scored on every possession in the first half, opening up a 39-0 halftime lead.

Neither team managed to score in the second half, as King William preserved its shutout. The loss drops the Blue Devils’ record to 1-6.

The game was originally scheduled for Friday, but was postponed after school was closed on Friday because of Tropical Storm Michael. Monday’s game was the Devils’ homecoming game and the 48th annual Mathews Ruritan Bowl. Blue Devil running back Jovan Johnson received the Ruritan Bowl MVP trophy for Mathews.
