The Mathews High School varsity boys’ baseball team was outmatched by the King William Cavaliers last Thursday, May 1, falling 10-0.
The Blue Devils struggled to create offense against the Cavaliers’ pitchers. Seniors Justin Jones and Christian Blue, along with freshman Hunter Horsley, each collected one hit.
The Cavaliers out-batted the Blue Devils early in the game scoring eight runs in the first two innings. Blue came in to relieve starting pitcher junior Danny Hogge. Blue pitched 3 2/3 innings while giving up three hits, two earned runs, and striking out seven batters.
The Blue Devils will host Charles City today, Thursday, May 15, at 5 p.m. The team will also travel on Friday to face off against the Northampton Yellow Jackets.
