Cavaliers edge Devils in soccer

The Mathews High School varsity soccer team lost a close 1-0 contest to King William on Monday night.

The visiting Devils and the Cavaliers were knotted up at 0-0 through the first half, with King William slipping in the winning goal in the second half.

Mathews had seven shots-on goal, shot by Will Sease, Ryan Morgan, Grant Avery and Tyler Tillman. Carter Vrooman had 16 keeper saves.

The Devils were scheduled to host Middlesex last night.
In other news, the MHS soccer program will hold its second annual Alumni Game at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 21 on the MHS soccer field. The game will serve as a fundraiser for the team.

A raffle will be held during the game, and a cookout will follow immediately after. This cookout will be at the parks and recreation lot, and will include chicken quarters, sides and dessert. Tickets will be sold by Blue Devils soccer players for $8.
