Causey continues family racing tradition

Wet track conditions at Virginia Motor Speedway on Saturday resulted in the cancellation of the race that would have seen the return of driver Macy Causey to a Virginia track. 

The 17-year-old driver was slated to compete at the Jamaica dirt track in the Late Model Series. She hopes the race will be run this week.

Going into the race, Causey had expressed confidence in her car despite its being a different vehicle from her standard number 33 Late Model.

“Brett Atkins and Billy Atkins set me up with a great car,” she said, explaining that the car her team would have fielded on Saturday brought 450 horsepower compared to the usual 300 of her own Late Model.

Besides preparing the car itself for competition, Causey spoke of the importance of being able to adapt on the fly. “This is my first time back on dirt,” she said in an interview leading up to the race, explaining that while she began her career on dirt tracks she has been racing exclusively on asphalt...
