Catherine “Cathy” Amidon of Newport News, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 10, 2016 at Riverside Regional Medical Center.

She was a native of Mathews County and retired from Civil Service at Fort Lee, Hopewell, Va. She was a member of Unity Baptist Church in Hopewell, and Hidenwood Presbyterian in Newport News. She was also a member of the Peninsula Quilt Guild. Cathy loved reading, quilting, and was very active in her church.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Kristine Amidon, and parents, Francis and Blanch Dennis.

Survivors include her daughter, Kim Edwards (Mike); sister, Francis Dennis; brother, Russell Dennis (Alice); two grandchildren, Heather Husi (Tony), David Blodgett (Mandy); two great-grandchildren, Sophia and Anthony Husi; niece, Amy Jarvis; nephew, Ryan Dennis, and cousin, Barbara Felton, from Ohio.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, Jan. 14, 2016 from 6-7:30 p.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at Newington Church Cemetery in Gloucester, Va. on Friday, Jan. 15, at 11 a.m., officiated by the Rev. William Lamont.
