CAROLYN JEANNE KANOY RAWLS

Carolyn Jeanne Kanoy Rawls, 85, of Gloucester, died Oct. 31, 2012 at Walter Reed Convalescent Center.

Jeanne retired in 1980 from Newport News Public Schools, and was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Gloucester, where she was a member of the Women’s Sunday School Class, the Presbyterian Women’s Circle and Willing Hands.

Jeanne was an avid quilter and shared many pieces of her work with her family. She also enjoyed sewing, gardening and knitting with her husband, making newborn baby hats that they donated to the Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who was devoted to her family.

Jeanne was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Rawls Sr., on Oct. 15, 2012.

She is survived by her son, John W. Rawls Jr. and wife Jackie; daughters, Deborah Carpenter and husband Al, Claudia Dale and husband Ralph; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, and sister, Dorothy Caudle.

Funeral services conducted by Pastor Ralph E. Dale were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012, at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point. Interment followed in Peninsula Memorial Park. The family received friends prior to the service on Saturday from 10:15-11 at the funeral home.
