CAROL HOWARD CASTELLOW

Carol Howard Castellow ended her 84-year earthly journey on May 28, 2017.

She passed peacefully in her home. Born Carol Mae, she was the third of five children born to Hiram and Malvary Howard in Hindman, Kentucky.

Nell Bee, her older sister, and only surviving sibling, still resides in Hampton. The family relocated to Grafton, when she was young.

She married Johnnie T. Castellow and the Army. These events gave her the chance to have five children of her own and travel the world. She must have heard grandchildren come cheaper by the dozen, because that is how many she was blessed with. The extended family includes 14 great-grandchildren.

Carol had a residence in Hayes for over 20 years, and was a member of Union Baptist Church.

Her last full-time position was working for the National Park Service, giving her the chance to spend her summers on the Outer Banks of North Carolina and her winters in Southern Florida.

Towards the end of her career, Carol settled in Key Largo, Florida, and, after retiring, volunteered numerous hours in several different positions in her local Habitat for Humanity.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. at Union Baptist Church on June 24.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to your local Habitat for Humanity.
