Carey Lee Sterling Hogge, 41, of Mathews, Va., went to her heavenly home on Thursday, Aug. 5, 2021. As a faithful woman, she loved the Lord, her family, church, and community.

A beautiful person inside and out, she embraced life as a gift from God. She loved her children with deep adoration serving them with a committed heart. Her most cherished memories were family vacations by the ocean after baseball season was over and her place in the scorekeeper’s box would wait until next year. Following her graduation from Mathews High School, she completed her Business Administration degree at Christopher Newport University. Her 21-year career with Lockwood’s Carpets was more like her second family. As a member of Central United Methodist Church, she served as treasurer of the Nancy Wroten Memorial Sunday School class. As an active mother with Mathews Little League, she served as a board member and secretary. As a supportive mother with the PTA, she served as a Vice President of the Lee-Jackson Elementary School PTA.

Carey is survived by her husband, Richard Daniel Hogge; their sons, Richie and Danny; stepson, Brett (Olivia); parents, Dennis and Robin Sterling; in-laws, Barry and Nancy Hogge; brother-in-law, David Hogge (Rachael), and many loving family members. She was preceded in death by her beloved brother, Dennis Sterling II, and grandparents, Carey and Nancy Minor and Elmo and Lucille Sterling.

The family received friends at Hogg Funeral Home on Monday, Aug. 9, 2021, from 6-7:30 p.m. A graveside service conducted by Pastor John Choi and Pastor Tom Cohick was held at Rosewell Memorial Garden Cemetery on Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2021, at 12 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that gifts be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital at: St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105.
