Care Clinic relaxes income requirements

The Gloucester-Mathews Care Clinic has relaxed its income requirements in order to better use its volunteer doctors and to increase the number of patients it can serve. The clinic is located off Route 17 South on Industrial Drive.

The clinic will now accept patients at 250 percent of the federal poverty guidelines, and is also working to streamline its screening process for new patients. The previous threshold had been 200 percent of federal poverty guidelines.

According to David Burns, interim executive director for the GMCC, a one-person household can now make about $6,000 more per year to be eligible for the clinic’s services than under the previous guidelines. Meanwhile, a four-person household can now make about $12,000 more annually to be eligible for services. “The new level will allow the clinic to provide quality health care to a greater number of Gloucester and Mathews County residents who lack health insurance,” said Kevin Brophy, director of business man...
