CAPT. HARRY PURCELL SOLES

 Capt. Harry Purcell Soles, 86, of Gloucester, passed away on Wednesday, May 8, 2013, in Riverside Walter Reed Hospital.

He was born in Gloucester County to the late George B. and Annie Lou Purcell Soles. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and served in both theaters. He retired from the Maritime Commission in 1974 and then from the C&O Railroad in 1985.

He was an active member of Singleton United Methodist Church and had served in many capacities. He was also a 32 degree member of Botetourt Masonic #7 with over 50 years’ service, Royal Arch Chapter in Urbanna, the Scottish Rite Chapter, and at the time of his death, the oldest member of Harcum Hunt Club.

In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his sisters, Louise and Verna. He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline R. Soles; his sons, Blair and Karen Soles, and Bruce and Martha Soles; brother, George B. Soles and his wife Lucy; grandchildren, Kara and Phil, Andrea and Ben, Lauren, and Matt; great-grandchildren, Madison, Colin, and Ashlyn; nieces, Mary B., Carolyn, Anne; nephews, Bobby, Fred, and Tommy.

A graveside service was held on Friday, May 10, 2013, at 4 p.m. in Singleton United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family received friends in the church fellowship hall following the service.
