Candidates for House of Delegates spar at Mathews board meeting

The race for the Virginia House of Delegates’ 98th District seat loomed over the Mathews County Board of Supervisors meeting Tuesday night, as Del. Keith Hodges (R-Middlesex) sparred with supervisor Neena Putt, who is challenging him this fall.

Hodges attended the supervisors meeting to update the board on the recently completed 2013 legislative session. He outlined the General Assembly’s actions on transportation, implementation of the federal Affordable Care Act, education and employment, saying the session "didn’t feel as hectic or controversial" as the 2012 session, his first in office.

"We didn’t have as many headline grabbers or as many social issues to deal with," he said.

After he finished his report, Hodges was questioned by his opponent in the Nov. 5 general election. "What exactly has been done for the 98th District in the last two sessions?" Putt asked.
