CALVIN WILLIAM RHEA

Calvin William Rhea, age 94, of Ware Neck, died on Tuesday, July 6, 2021, at home surrounded by his family. Calvin was born on June 8, 1927 to the late Walter Rhea and Clara Bell Munda in Honolulu, Hawaii. A U.S. Navy veteran, he served our country in the Pacific during WWII as a young teen. After serving in the military, Calvin went on to attend the University of Virginia where he played football. Calvin was a member of the Board of Directors of the Park Partners and also a member of the UVA Football Alumni Association. Calvin was an excellent woodworker, making wooden bowls, pie safes, and just about anything else he set his mind to. He loved spending time in his woodshop and sharing his creations with friends and family. He loved the outdoors, loved nature, and loved watching his birds and squirrels. Most of all, Calvin loved his family and offered an endless supply of unconditional love. Calvin was a beloved, genuine Patriarch to his family and to so many others, always speaking kindly and blessing everyone with his wisdom.

In addition to his parents, siblings, Francis, Jack, Walter and Margaret, preceded him in death. Calvin is survived by his loving wife and soul mate of 67 years, Rachel Rhea. He is also survived by his daughter, Denise Rhea Carter (Al); sons, E. Keith Rhea (Lisa) and Don F. Rhea (Carol Brooks); nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews, including his beloved niece, Sandra Nuttall and husband Wayne; special friends, John and Barbara Moody. A gathering of family and friends was held on Friday, July 9, 2021, at Hogg Funeral Home from 6-7:30 p.m. A celebration of life service was held at Beulah Baptist Church on Saturday, July 10, 2021, at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev.
