CALVIN ROANE BOOKER JR.

Calvin Roane Booker Jr. of Gloucester, son of the late Calvin Roane and Carrie Eastwood Booker, age 83, died peacefully at his home Aug. 11, 2018, with family by his side.

Calvin graduated from Botetourt High School, attended the University of Richmond before joining the Army. He returned from the Army after the sudden death of his father to assume the family business of Tri-County Furniture and Tri-Co LP Gas. In 1969 he met and married the love of his life, Diana, and they enjoyed 48 wonderful years of marriage. Together, Calvin, Diana, Al and Roane continued to run the family business. Calvin was an avid outdoorsman who was passionate about fishing and hunting, sharing these hobbies with his best friend and son, Roane, his daughter, Tabitha, beloved brother, Al, and Basset Hound, Drummer. 

He was also known for sharing peaches from his orchard with many friends and neighbors. In his later years, Calvin found another passion in wood carving. He and Diana enjoyed travelling to carving shows.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Annette Booker McGhee, and grandson, Jeffrey Leigh Spence Jr. Calvin is survived by his wife, Diana Booker; daughter, Tabitha Booker Dyess and husband, Robert; son, Calvin Roane Booker III and wife, Stephanie; his brother, Al Booker and wife, Janice; his grandchildren, Lynleigh French, Scott Motley, Morgan Booker and Andrea Booker; great-grandsons, Christopher and Caleb; great-granddaughters, Cayleigh, Karleigh and Melanie, and special cousins, Frances May and Faye Deal.

Funeral services conducted by the Rev. Kenneth Waclo, was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2018, at Bellamy United Methodist Church, 4870 Chestnut Fork, Gloucester, Va. 23061. Interment followed in the church cemetery. The family received friends at Hogg Funeral Home, Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2018, from 6-7:30 p.m.
