CALEB SHEPHERD CHOWNING

Caleb Shepherd Chowning, 7, of Hayes, finished his fight on Tuesday, May 16, 2017.

Caleb did many hard things throughout his treatment for osteosarcoma always showing courage and spunk.

Caleb is the son of Damon and Sarah Chowning and the brother of Connor. He is the grandson of Edward and Sandra Jackson of Ferrum, and Larry and Dee Chowning of Urbanna. Caleb is deeply loved by his great-grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Caleb loved the song “Thunderstruck” by AC/DC, Captain Underpants books, and the movie “Swiss Family Robinson.” He believed the best days were beach days especially if they ended with popsicles and sparklers. Caleb knew that people may look different and have different abilities but that everyone deserves friendship and kindness.

There will be a celebration of Caleb’s life on Saturday, June 10 at 2 p.m. at Susanna Wesley United Methodist Church in Hayes. We would love for guests to wear things that represent Caleb—his favorite color was purple, and he loved superheroes, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Minecraft.

We will never be able to adequately express how thankful we are to the staff of the Hem/Onc Clinic and 8B at Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters and Edmarc Hospice for Children. They were our caretakers, therapists, teachers and friends and were always there to support our family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Zach Sobiech Osteosarcoma Fund through Children’s Cancer Research Fund or Edmarc Hospice for Children. Or, consider donating blood and/or platelets in Caleb’s memory.
