Cajun cooking comes to Mathews: Louisiana native prepares a big meal daily for her family

When she moved to Mathews in 2012, Tina Kelly, a native of Louisiana, brought her knowledge of Cajun cooking with her. She has always graciously shared it with family and friends.

Tina was born in the town of Lafayette but grew up in Abbeville. “I had five sisters and two brothers and we all cooked, but I’m the best cook of them all. My mother and father were both good cooks. That’s how I learned to cook, they taught me. I remember the first thing I ever cooked was spaghetti and it turned out good. I added a little barbecue sauce to it and still do today. That gives it some extra kick.” 

Tina and Larry met and married in Louisiana and there they raised their family of two daughters. During that time Tina was the head chef at two restaurants and catered private affairs. “Larry decided he wanted to come back home to Mathews. So here we are and I love it. I’m a stay-at-home grandmother of nine grandchildren, and six of them spend the summer day...
