C.H. Players’ production of ‘Oliver!’ opens tonight

The Court House Players’ production of “Oliver!” will be performed at 7 o’clock tonight through Saturday and at 3 p.m. Sunday, in the Harry M. Ward Auditorium at Mathews High School.

Based on Charles Dickens’ classic novel, “Oliver Twist,” the Tony and Olivier Award-winning musical, set in Victorian England, tells the story of Oliver, portrayed by Catherine King, a malnourished orphan in a workhouse, becomes the neglected apprentice of an undertaker, Mr. Sowerberry (George Opie).

Oliver escapes to London and finds acceptance among a group of petty thieves and pickpockets led by the elderly Fagin (James King).

When Oliver is captured for a theft that he did not commit, the benevolent victim, Mr. Brownlow (K.C. Woller), takes him in.
