BZA grants special exception for seafood house

The Gloucester County Board of Zoning Appeals approved a special exception request for establishment of a seafood house during a meeting March 24 in the colonial courthouse.

Applicant Alvin L. Jenkins received the go-ahead to operate his business for wholesale sales and shipment of seafood at 2770 Guinea Circle, Hayes. Helen E. Jenkins is listed as owner of the property, which lies in the York Magisterial District and zoned Bayside Conservation (C-2).

Tripp Little, a planner in the Gloucester Planning and Zoning Office, said that no one spoke against the application with one nearby neighbor speaking in favor.

Jenkins will not clean or shuck seafood at his location, Little said, but instead sort oysters, soft crabs and some other seafood by size, with some to be marketed to restaurants and some to canneries.
