BZA approves special exception for Gloucester Institute

The Gloucester County Board of Zoning Appeals approved a special exception for the Gloucester Institute Tuesday night for an extension to allow renovations to be completed at the former Moton Center at Cappahosic.

Martin Brown, applicant, on behalf of Richmond-based The Gloucester Institute, asked for the extension to allow completion of construction underway at the facility, which is located on the York River at 3189 Leadership Drive. The BZA first approved a special exception for the project five years ago, but the five-year time limit stated by the board had elapsed.

The construction is almost completed at the site, said planner Tripp Little. He estimated the work might be completed as soon as this fall.

The board approved an 18-month extension, as requested. Little said the BZA also approved further six-month extensions, if needed, which can be granted by the zoning administrator.
