A “By Appointment 5K” run will be held on Saturday, starting and ending at Williams Wharf Landing in Mathews.
The event is being hosted by Virginia Tidewater Trailrunners, a club open to beginner and experienced runners on the Middle Peninsula.
Virginia restrictions in place to protect against the spread of coronavirus allow for certain activities as exceptions to the temporary stay-at-home order, with exercise approved and encouraged, according to the event sponsors.
The start times for this race will be set on an individual basis. Each participant will be assigned a specific start time during daylight hours on Saturday, allowing for a time between participants.
“Your start time may be as early as 6:30 a.m. and as late as 6:30 p.m. All participants will run the same course; live results will be available throughout the day via webscorer.com so you can monitor your standings,” according to Virginia Tidewater Trailrunners.
The course, along the back roads of Mathews, will be clearly marked with signage. There will not be a water stop along the route for safety. Participants should plan to bring their own water; either drop the water bottle along Williams Wharf Road as you approach the event or leave it at your vehicle in the finish area.
Runners will complete the 5K course alone. The only exception is for members of a household who sign up together. Runners are asked to indicate during the registration process if a member of their immediate household is also signing up and the start time will be scheduled together.
There is a $12.50 registration fee. For the protection of the timing team, no race day registration or payment is available. VTTR asks that non-participants (spectators) remain in or near their vehicle at all times. Start times will be assigned and communicated for all who have registered and paid.
