Buxton to speak at Book and Author Luncheon

Southside Sentinel columnist and author Mary Wakefield Buxton of Urbanna will be the featured speaker at the 26th Annual Book and Author Luncheon on Friday, March 22, at Providence Baptist Church, Ordinary.

The event, sponsored by the York River Circle of The King’s Daughters and Sons, is the circle’s major fundraising event each year in support of the Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters in Norfolk.

Buxton will speak on the subject of one of her recent books, “The Private War of William Styron.” A Pulitzer Prize winning author, Styron was born and raised in Newport News and because Buxton was a cousin through marriage she had an intimate view of Styron’s struggle to grow up, cast off the chains of conformity and develop into an internationally well-known novelist. Some of his best known works are “The Confessions of Nat Turner” and “Sophia’s Choice.”
