Busy weekend ahead in Gloucester, Mathews

This weekend will be a busy one for Gloucester and Mathews residents, with a number of events taking place. Perhaps two of the biggest events this weekend are the 18th annual Tour de Chesapeake in Mathews and the opening of the 37th annual Virginia Watercolor Society Exhibition in Gloucester.

Also this weekend, the Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society will host its second annual Family Fun Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the shelter on Jackson Lane in Gloucester.

From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, the Virginia Institute of Marine Science will hold its annual Marine Science Day at the school’s Gloucester Point campus.

Finally, Mathews County’s first Maritime Recognition Weekend, which will culminate in an old-fashioned, patriotic assembly at 4 p.m. Sunday in the Harry M. Ward Auditorium at Mathews High School. ...
