Busy Sunday

Members of Abingdon Volunteer Fire and Rescue had a busy Sunday. In the early afternoon, units responded to the scene of a utility pole/electrical fire on Route 17 near LightHouse Worship Center (photo above). Route 17 was closed in both directions for about an hour as crews worked to isolate the live wires/hazards. On Sunday evening (at right), AVFR received a call for a single-vehicle accident in the Perrin area. First arriving units found a vehicle that had gone off the road. Because of the very high tides, the driver could not see the edge of the road. In this case, fortunately there were no reported injuries. AVFR reminds motorists that driving through water over the roads is dangerous, as well as damaging to your vehicle. “If the vehicle had gone in deeper water with the low temperatures there would have been many worse outcomes,” an AVFR release stated.
