Business rezoning sought at Port Haywood

The Mathews County Board of Supervisors and Planning Commission will have a joint public hearing at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15 on a rezoning request by Kathryn A. Tatterson of  Port Haywood. The meeting will be in the historic courthouse on Court Street.

Tatterson is asking to have several parcels rezoned near the intersection of Rt. 14 and Rt. 608 at Port Haywood from Rural (RU) to Business-2 (B-2), according to a report by the planning and zoning office. The parcels were previously used for a commercial plant nursery, and all have greenhouses on them, along with a 2,500-square-foot building, a 1,200-square-foot building, and a 1,200-square-foot trailer.

The B-2 designation allows a number of business uses, either by-right or with a conditional use permit, says the report, adding that the property is currently for sale, and having it rezoned to B-2 would increase the number of potential business uses for the site.
