Flowers from the Heart owner Theresa Morgan and her husband Rusty were putting flags on relatives’ graves last Memorial Day when they noticed something surprising—a lot of veterans’ graves didn’t have flags.

Rusty is a U.S. Marine veteran, and Theresa’s father is a U.S. Navy veteran, so it bothered the couple. They talked it over and decided that night to make sure that every veteran’s grave in Mathews would have a flag on it this year.

Now, in an initiative they’re calling Flags from the Heart, Theresa and Rusty are raising funds to purchase 600 8” x 10” American flags for the graves. The flags will cost around $500, said Theresa, and donations so far have totaled $250. She’s hoping to raise the rest of the money in time to order the flags. With that in mind, she’ll create $10 Memorial Day centerpieces, with all proceeds going to purchase flags.
