Burruss, Kiser take part in VSBA Hot Topics Conference

Gloucester County School Board member Ann Burruss and school division superintendent Ben Kiser attended the Virginia School Boards Association Hot Topics Conference on Monday in Charlottesville.

The conference focused on the Virginia Board of Education’s new superintendent evaluation standards, the reasoning behind them and considerations for their implementation.

The state board approved Guidelines for Uniform Performance Standards and Evaluation Criteria for Superintendents in September 2012 and the guidelines become effective July 1, 2014, although school divisions may implement them before that date.

 

The seven performance standards included in the guidelines are as follows: Mission, Vision and Goals; Planning and Assessment; Instructional Leadership; Organizational Leadership and Safety; Communication and Community Relations; Professionalism; and Division-wide Student Academic Progress.
