Burning of the greens

Ware Episcopal Church, Gloucester, celebrated the end of the Christmas season with the annual Twelfth Night Burning of the Greens last Thursday night. All of the greens used to decorate the sanctuary, parishioners’ homes and laid throughout the historic cemetery were gathered and lit on fire as a reminder of Jesus coming as “light of the world,” according to Ware rector the Rev. Scott Parnell. The evening concluded with an oyster roast and s’mores.
