The water level in Burke’s Mill Pond in Gloucester is at normal level and flow again, two months after water was drained by 3.5 feet so contractors could repair a leak in the dam on Burke’s Pond Road. Tracy Keller, CEO of the Girl Scout Council of the Colonial Coast, which is one of three owners of the dam, said that the repair is doing well. In July, a Stage 2 Emergency was declared at the dam, which meant the dam could fail if the leak wasn’t addressed. Contractors removed failing concrete, installed sand and aggregate, and compacted the material to stabilize the soil. The Stage 2 Emergency was lifted on July 10. Keller said the dam is being monitored monthly to make sure it’s safe and that no further leaks develop. Meanwhile, all parties involved are exploring long-term solutions to the problem.
