Burke Mill Bridge project on Route 14 completed

Reconstruction of the westbound Burke Mill Stream Bridge on Route 14 at the Gloucester-Mathews line is completed.Darragh Frye of the Virginia Department of Transportation said the project was completed ahead of its projected November finishing date, and that left turns from Route 3 onto Route 14 at the intersection are again being allowed.
For many months, east- and westbound traffic on Route 14 between Gloucester and Mathews was limited to two lanes as the westbound bridge, dating to the 1940s, was removed and rebuilt.
The $5.5 million project began in July 2024 and in addition to the bridge work, included replacement of bridge railings, guardrails and asphalt.
The speed limit through this area will remain 35 mph as another bridge project on Route 14, about a mile away, continues.
In that case, the bridge, which carries two lanes of traffic over the North End Branch of North River, is being widened in stages. That project is anticipated to be completed in June 2026, VDOT said....
