Budget meeting Tuesday in Mathews

The Mathews County Board of Supervisors will have a public meeting on the upcoming 2017-2018 county budget at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the historic courthouse on Court Street.

Residents are invited to attend and voice their opinions before the board begins its formal consideration of the budget.

The budget process began on Jan. 13, when budget requests from departments and agencies, excluding the school system, were due in the county administrator’s office.

The schools budget is due for submission to the county administrator by March 24, and the supervisors are expected to receive the combined draft budget prior to the regular board meeting at the 7 p.m. meeting on Tuesday, March 28.

A work session on the budget is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 30, followed by a public hearing at 7 p.m. on Monday, April 17.
