Lt. Col. Lewis H. “Bucky” Burruss Jr. (Army-ret.) of Broad Marsh, was named the recipient of the Bull Simons Award.
Named after Col. Arthur D. “Bull” Simons, the award is presented annually by U.S. Special Operations Command as a lifetime achievement award to “those who embody the spirit, values and skills of the Special Operations Unconventional Warrior, and is USSOCOM’s highest honor,” according to the Special Operations Association.
Burruss distinguished himself during a lifetime of service in the United States Special Operations Forces in a series of significant and dangerous assignments, culminating as Deputy Commander of a Special Mission Unit, Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Spanning a period of 22 years, Burruss trained, organized, and led numerous combat operations in Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Grenada.
