Bridge work to cause traffic stops on April 21

Two traffic stops of up to 30 minutes each will be required on Sunday, April 21, at the George P. Coleman Memorial Bridge.

Virginia Department of Transportation spokesperson Jennifer Gwaltney said the traffic stops will be held in conjunction with single-lane northbound closures on the span from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. that day.

The single-lane closures are necessary to allow crews to perform electrical and mechanical work on the bridge, Gwaltney said. The bridge will remain fully operational throughout the work, she said, but the two traffic stops are necessary to allow crews to reposition equipment.

Maritime traffic will also be impacted by the bridge work that day.

 

The scheduled maintenance activities are weather dependent, and in the event of rain the work will be done from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, April 28.
