Brickbat Road to close next week

Brickbat Road between Main and Court streets in Mathews will be closed next week as part of Mathews County’s ongoing Main Street Enhancement Project. The closure will begin Monday and last through next Friday, April 21.

Traffic on Main Street will continue to be restricted to alternating one-way travel, said a press release from Thomas Jenkins, director of the Mathews County Department of Planning and Zoning. Flaggers will continue to direct traffic.

The project has been moving along at a steady clip, with new storm drains being installed over the past few weeks between Brickbat Road and Kingston Parish.

Jenkins said that the contractor will fill in the holes made to install the pipes and leave a walkable gravel surface until the sidewalks are completed.
