Fred A. Brewer Jr., 70, of Gloucester Point, has announced his candidacy for the at-large seat on the Gloucester County School Board. He has been serving in the seat since March on an interim appointment to finish the remainder of Deborah McDonough’s term, which expires on Dec. 31, 2025. He is opposed by S. Nicole McPherson in the general election.
Brewer represents the school board on several subcommittee assignments, including the Gloucester County Public Schools Educational Foundation, GCPS Policy Review Committee, Gifted Education Advisory Committee, New Horizons Regional Education Center and Education Advisory Committee of the Hampton Roads Telecommunications Association/WHRO-TV.
Previously, Brewer served three consecutive terms on the Hampton City School Board from 2000-2012, and served as chairman for five of those years. He describes himself as an “ardent supporter of public education.”
