Brent and Becky’s to observe National Honey Bee Day Aug. 20

National Honey Bee Day will be celebrated from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 20, at Brent and Becky’s Bulbs, Ware Neck, with demonstrations and information provided by the Colonial Beekeepers Association.

The group will show how honey is extracted from the comb, as well as local honey and other products from the hive for sale, kids’ activities, honey tastings and more, a release said.

Hive openings will be demonstrated at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., and talks are planned on “The Amazing Honey Bee” at 10:30 and “How to be a Beekeeper” at 12:30.

Other vendors will also be on site. Gloucester Master Gardeners will demonstrate how to plant a pollinator-frriendly garden. Mead tastings will be offered by Serendipity Meadworks, photo ops are available with Black Rose Relics and Rentals. Also offered are wax products from Bee Thrashy Wax, honey-based beauty products from Beauty by Nature, and lunch options available for purchase (cash only) from Boy Scout Troop #113.
