American Legion Post 83, Mathews, has announced its 2023 delegates to Boys and Girls State. Delegates are selected by their peers and teachers and then interviewed by an American Legion member to qualify to attend this prestigious event each year. Delegates from all over Virginia will meet the week of June 18 to learn more about the formation and operation of city, county and state government entities. The participants vote and carry out elected and appointed positions in the Boys and Girls State government. Although separate, both programs give participants the experience of living together as self-governing citizens with the privileges, rights and responsibilities of American citizenship. Girls State will be held at Longwood University and Boys State will be conducted at Radford University.
