BOYD-D MANNING JENKINS

Boyd-D Manning Jenkins, 75, of Gloucester Point, passed away Saturday, April 22, 2017, after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease.

He was preceded in death by his parents, David M. and Adele Brown Jenkins; son, Andrew V. Jenkins, and baby brother, Donald Lee Jenkins. 

Boyd-D is survived by his wife, Joyce Clements Jenkins of 54 years; daughter, Nancy Lynn Northcott and husband Don Jay; two granddaughters, Jessica Lynn and Lauren Nicole Northcott; brother, Randy A. Jenkins; a niece and nephew, Ashley and Randy Jr. 

Boyd-D was born on Sept. 6, 1941 in Richmond. He was raised in Gloucester and graduated from Gloucester High School in 1960. During his three years in the Army serving in the Signal Corps, he and Joyce lived in Huntsville, Alabama. After his military duty, he and his family returned to Gloucester to make this their home. 

Boyd-D worked briefly at the Newport News Shipyard while waiting for his position to reopen at the Naval Weapons Station Yorktown. He retired from there as test director for mine sweepers in 1994 after 32 years of service. Later in 2007, he retired from NN/WIA as the Parking Lot Manager. 

Boyd-D was a member and served as deacon of Providence Baptist Church. He served on numerous committees and was active in Sunday school, specifically the Men’s Bible Class. 

Boyd-D was a member of the Masonic Lodge for over 40 years. He was a member of Achilles Lodge AF&AM #281, Worshipful Master in 1980 and 1997 and DDGM (District #11) in 1987 and 2002. He was a member of Urbanna, RAC #59, High Priest in 1976 and 1977 and DDGHP (District #19) in 1978. He was also a member of Penn Neck Commandry #33, Commander in 1990 and DDGC (District #1) in 1994. 

Boyd-D was an avid gardener and maintained a beautiful yard. His loyal companion was Davy, his yellow Lab. 

We thank Riverside Hospice for their incredible staff and loving caregivers.

A funeral service conducted by the Rev. Chris McMillan will be held on Wednesday, May 3, at 11 a.m. at Providence Baptist Church, Ordinary. Interment will follow in the church cemetery; after which, the family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall.

In Boyd-D’s memory, donations may be given to the charity of your choice.
